Five strokes separated the Woodward-Granger boys’ golfers from finishing fifth overall as they shot a combined 397 at the Perry Invitational.
On Saturday, April 21, the Hawks made the quick trek to Perry where they saw the Norwalk Warriors take the top spot with a 331.
In second place were the A.D.M. Tigers with a 334, while the other Tigers from Gilbert finished in third place with a 338.
Green County came in fourth with a 358, followed by the host who finished five strokes fewer than the Hawks with a 392. The Wildcats of Carlisle finished seventh with a 435.
Hawks’ Coby Peters finished his 18-hole round with a team leading 88. He shot a 45 in the front nine where he recorded two pars, five bogeys and two doubles. He was two strokes better in the back nine as he shot four pars, three bogeys and two doubles.
Teammate Nick Brummond finished second on the team with a 94. Hunter Pierce’s 104 and Matt Buch’s 111 rounded out the four scores. Max Helbling shot a 113 and Trey Lettow a 123.
Two days prior the Hawks played close to their 9-hole average when they finished second with a score of 181, in a West central Activities meet.
At the Woodward Golf and Country Club, the Panorama Panthers captured first with a 165. Fellow visitors from Guthrie, the AC/GC Chargers were third with a 234.
In the April 19 event, it was Brummond who led the Hawks with a finished score of 43. Helbling was second with a 45, with Buch third with a 46 and Peters fourth with a 47. Pierce had a 55 and Lettow shot a 61.
