The Woodward-Granger Hawks’ wrestling team finished off their latest meet with consecutive wins to sweep the visiting competition at a home triangular event.

Two teams, the Baxter Bolts and Gilbert Tigers, both suffered the same fate at the Jan. 16, meet at Woodward-Granger High School.

The Bolts not only took a loss but were dealt a lopsided 78-0 defeat after the host scored 13 six point scores - 11 coming in forfeits.

W-G’s Dillon Fogarty (220) and Kade Polich (182) were the only two grapplers who recorded pinfall victories.

Fogarty scored first when he pinned Micah Kearns in 50 seconds. Polich wrestled in the final spot and defeated Shane Beougher in 54 seconds.

The Hawks had a more difficult time when they squared off against the Tigers but still secured a 45-31 victory.

Only 21 Hawks’ points - three pinfalls and one decision came from actual competitive matches. The other 24 were all from forfeits.

Once again Fogarty earned a pinfall win this time in 2:43 over Jacob Torresi. Teammate Hunter Pierce (106) also recorded six points when he subdued Gabriel Killian in 93 seconds.

Joining in pinfall victories was W-G’s Austin Scharlau (152) who needed just 49 seconds to defeat Juan Romero. Fellow Hawk Gabe Yingst earned a 10-6 decision over John Howell.

The squad heads back to the mat this Saturday, Jan. 20, when they travel to Truro for a meet versus the Roadrunners of Interstate-35 H.S.
