Woodward-Granger’s boys’ basketball team suffered their second West Central Activities Conference loss after a 64-31 defeat against the undefeated Van Meter Bulldogs (4-0, 4-0).

It didn’t take long for the Hawks (4-2, 2-2) to feel the bite of their host Bulldogs at last Friday’s, Dec. 8, contest.

The road team found themselves down by eight points after the first eight minutes of play when the home team opened up the game on an 18-10 run.

It got a worse for the Hawks in the second as the Bulldogs’ defense kept the Hawks to just eight points in the second while scoring 13.

In the third quarter the Hawks once again scored eight points while the home team garnered another double digit frame with 14.

The final eight minutes saw a Hawks team put up less than half a dozen points, five, to the Bulldogs’ 19.

W-G’s Keith Braunschweig was the only Hawks player with double digit points. He finished with 13 points on 3-for-9 from the field including buring one of his four three point attempts. He also was 6-of-10 from the line.

Offensively the Hawks shot 6-for-29 from the floor, 2-for-8 from three, 13-for-19 from the line, with 24 rebounds - 20 defensive and four offensive, six assists, five steals and two blocks.

The lone double digit scorer marked the first time this season that the Hawks didn’t post multiple players in double figures.

In their four wins so far this season the Hawks had three to four players pass the two digit point mark. The did however have four double digit scorers in the other loss.

Up next the Hawks are home this Tuesday to take on fellow WCAC team the Ogden Bulldogs.
