Did You Know… what type of store this was, and where it was located? There was a Jewelry store at this location since 1915. Starting as Reid’s Jewelry, in 1920 it became Milliken & Major Jewelry and then became Bacon’s Jewelry in 1960.

The photo shows the inside of Milliken & Major. I was working down the block at Stern & Field Clothing in 1960.

I purchased a Hamilton Electric wrist watch from Ed Bacon Sr. A watch that no longer works, but that I still have today. Ed allowed me to make payments to his store. This was the first major purchase of my life and I learned a good lesson about credit and financial responsibility.

Bacon’s was more than a Jewelry store to me, they will be missed.
