Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, Perry, Iowa. Burial with military honors will be held at Violet Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2018 with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home. An Elks service will follow the visitation at 7 p.m. Dick passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames, Iowa, at the age of 81.

Richard Dee Hoffman was born Aug. 20, 1936 in rural Bouton, Iowa the son of Harold V. and Opal Leona (LeMaster) Hoffman. He was born and raised on the Hoffman farmstead. Dick attended grade school at Gardiner School and attended Perry High School and graduated with the class of 1954. He entered the United States Army on Oct. 6, 1955 and was Honorably Discharged on July 8, 1957. After serving his country he returned to the farm where he resided almost his entire life. Dick was a member of the Minburn Community Club “ Singing Wheels” and performed in many of their productions in it’s day.

Dick was a dedicated B.P.O.E. Elks #407 Lodge member for the past 57 years. He held every office in the lodge and was Exalted Ruler three times over the years. Dick held the office of E.R. from 1968-1969, 1992-1993 and 1993-1994. He was awarded the Iowa Elk Association Elk of the Year award in 1974-1975, 1999-2000 and 2003-2004, held a state office and had just finished a state term. He was awarded an Honorary Life Membership on December 15, 1993. Dick was instrumental in the move from the downtown location of Elks Lodge #407 to its current location on Willis Avenue.

Survivors include his wife Jane Hoffman of Bouton, Iowa; one son Steven Hoffman of Austin, Texas; grandson Christopher (Erica) Hoffman stationed in Korea and one great-grandson; two step-sons Tom (Sally) Peterson of Bouton, Iowa, Kevin Peterson of Grimes, Iowa; step-daughter Teresa (Rick) Friess of Oxford, Fla.; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother Russell (Alice) Hoffman of Perry, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Dick in death were his parents Harold and Opal (LeMaster) Hoffman, two sons David Hoffman and Daniel Hoffman and one sister Norma Robinson.

Memorials may be directed to the Perry Elks Lodge # 407, in Dick’s name, and may be sent to Murdock Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at
