Lawrence Edward Peel, son of Lawrence Theodore Peel and Eva Mae Bridgett Peel, was born January 4, 1932 in Perry, Iowa and died April 20, 2018 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids. As his health declined, Ed (as he was lovingly known) was under Hospice Care.

Ed grew up in Perry and attended Perry Schools. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged April 4, 1957 in San Diego, California. Ed was deployed to Asia where he was stationed in Korea, Japan, and Indo China. He suffered a hearing disability during diving training.

In 1955, during his military service he was united in marriage with Sarah E. Keith. The couple were parents of four children: Danny Robert; LaWanda Jean; Craig LaVern; and Clarence Wayne.

Later Ed ran a cut off saw at a lumber mill. A back injury forced Ed into a new career and training to become an appliance repairman. In the mid 70’s, Ed and Sarah moved to Perry where he owned and operated S & L Enterprises, specializing in appliance repair.

Ed was an avid reader, enjoying newspapers, magazines and had a special fondness for the Guideposts publications. He enjoyed television, watching many football games and loved NASCAR, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. being his favorite driver.

Ed was a member of the VFW Post and American Legion Post in Perry. He was a proud 50 year member and past master of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of Eastern Star, serving with Sarah as worthy patron and worthy matron.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sarah; precious great-granddaughter Bethany Nicole Peel; and sister Mary May Haglund.

Ed’s memory will be cherished by his children: Danny Peel of Perry; LaWanda Nepstad of Urbandale; Craig Peel of Dixon, Mo.; and Clarence Peel (Jackie) of Perry; nine grandchildren: David Peel; Keith Seigfried; Aimee Courter; Sarah Nepstad; Craig Jr.” J.R.”; Justin Peel (Jessica); Geremy Peel; Crystal McDowell (Shaun); Samantha Peel; and great- grandchildren Ethan and Gavin Courter; Kirk, Kyle, Emma and Bethany Peel who died far too soon; Jeremiah, James and Alexa Peel; Hunter, Maya, and Huxton McDowell; and Joseph, Contessa, and Shyanne Spiegel.
