Students from Assumption School in Granger have taken second place in the Iowa Middle School Mock Trial Competition.

State-wide regional competition began in October with 176 teams. After a grueling two days spent competing against much larger schools, the young Granger advocates learned they had qualified for the State competition to be held in November.

At the State level, they competed against the top 32 teams from around Iowa. The top four teams—two from Johnston, one from Urbandale and Granger Assumption—competed against one another in the Iowa Supreme Courts on a final day of competition.

Urbandale and Assumption won their matches and competed in the finals, with Assumption School taking second place.

Assumption also received the Judge Anthony Critelli Award for Sportsmanship, Civility, and Courtroom Decorum. Assumption was one of four schools to receive the prestigious award. Assumption also won the Critelli Award in 2012.

Individual Assumption School students also awards: Anna Moellenbeck received an outstanding witness award, and Lilly Creighton and Thomas Derry received outstanding attorney awards.

Other Middle School Mock Trial participants were Ally Baumhover, Joey Burkhart, Wyatt Grubb, Tristen Lyddon, Luke Posegate, Zac Robinson and August Rosenmeyer and coaches Christie Creighton, Sharon Lyddon and Erin Holmes.
