Dallas County Hospital Pediatric Heartsaver CPR/First Aid class, 1-5 p.m., Dallas County Hospital Community Room. This class is intended for new or expectant parents, daycare workers or anyone who takes care of children. Participants will learn to perform CPR and rescue breathing, remove a foreign body from a child and demonstrate the use of automated external defibrillator. Affordable Care Act insurance marketplace enrollment event, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dallas County Hospital South Atrium. Visiting Nurse Services (VNS) of Iowa return to offer additional assistance to individuals enrolling in the new health insurance marketplace. The VNS Navigators will be on-site to help individuals understand health coverage options and enroll in a marketplace plan that meets their needs and fits their budget. Appointments are encouraged and may be made by calling 515-288-1516. Navigators estimate the enrollment process will take about 45 minutes, provided individuals bring all necessary documentation.

Resolve to read more books in 2014, and join the Perry Library Monthly Book Club for twelve great discussions this year. The selected title for the January meeting is "The Whip" by Karen Kondazian. Inspired by the true story of a woman who lived as a man in the old west and drove a stagecoach for Wells Fargo, this tale has something for everyone: tragedy, revenge and romance in a western setting. Perry Library Winter Storytime Session, 10:15 a.m., Perry Public Library. A new Storytime unit called Wintry Weather @ the Library will begin for infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children on Tuesday, Jan. 21 (18 months to 3 years), Wednesday, Jan. 22 (4-5 years) and Thursday, Jan. 23 (infants to 18 months). The Storytime sessions run from 10:15-11 a.m. (10:30-11 a.m. for the infants to 18-months group) and will incorporate age appropriate stories, finger-plays, songs and activities, all in keeping with the theme. Ladies Night Out, 6-7:30 p.m., Dallas County Hospital Community Room. Learn how to be "Sweet to Your Feet" with a special presentation by podiatrist Dr. Erin Ward, who will discuss how to prevent and care for common foot ailments.
