After first announcing its partnership with the City of Perry on Monday, the Perry Chamber of Commerce has now launched its newest business development program – the Perry Pride Business Booster – a gift card incentive program to support Perry businesses during this time of disruption. It is designed to benefit businesses adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting Public Health Disaster Declaration from the State of Iowa. This local relief program promotes the purchase of gift cards to provide much needed cashflow to businesses that are temporarily closed or operating with restrictions. As with any gift card purchase, payment takes place ahead of time, with the purchaser redeeming the value at a later date. In this case, the gift cards are available for use starting one week after purchase – or for those temporarily closed, once they reopen or resume full operations.
The Perry Pride Business Booster officially opened to the public at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22 at https://perry-chamber.square.site. At this time, the program is completely online, but an option to pay by mailing a check will be available starting Monday, April 27. This may be especially helpful for those without a computer or for businesses seeking to purchase as gifts for their employees. The program works in two steps:
Individuals purchase $30 gift cards from businesses of their choice on the Chamber’s online platform, but only pay $20 plus applicable service fees. Purchasers will receive an emailed receipt as proof of purchase to present to businesses when redeeming the full $30 value of the gift card, starting one week after purchase (or once the business reopens). There is no expiration date for the gift cards, but it is recommended to use them by the end of the year.
Businesses receive the full $30 per gift card purchased for their business. The Perry Chamber of Commerce received a grant from the City of Perry in order to provide the $10 discount per gift card at no cost to the participating businesses. The Perry Chamber will mail checks to businesses 1-3 times per week, as well as provide a list of purchased gift cards for businesses to manually track them. Businesses are to honor the digital gift cards in exchange for their products/service, just as they would with their own gift cards.
The program will span five weeks and there will be 2,000 gift cards available for purchase each week, with limited quantities per business per day. Available quantities will be updated each day at 12 p.m., so if a gift card is sold out, shoppers are encouraged to check back the following day. This program will potentially generate more than $300,000 of local spending at participating businesses.
The program is open to any business within the Perry city limits and the Chamber is still accepting participants (surveymonkey.com/r/Form-PPBB). The program is intentionally timed to provide a bonus to individuals – both for those looking to multiply their Economic Impact Payments, or stimulus checks, as well as those that may not have received one. Some businesses may even offer additional incentives to encourage their customers to take part in the program.
“This is a chance to stretch your own dollar while also supporting local businesses when they need it the most – right now!” explains Lynsi Pasutti, Executive Director of the Perry Chamber of Commerce. “All across the nation, every local chamber and business association is working overtime to find creative ways to engage their community and support their members. Gift card promotions are becoming pretty popular, but this is one of the bigger local initiatives that I’ve seen so far. We are very fortunate here in Perry to have such great partners to make this happen and we’re looking forward to this having a big impact.”
The Chamber will host a weekly Member Meetup on Zoom starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 23 to provide a tutorial to members and answer questions on the program. Additional programming is planned to assist individuals as well. For more information on the Perry Pride Business Booster, contact the Perry Chamber of Commerce at email@example.com or (515)465-4601.
