DES MOINES - The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products presented Vicki Lage of Perry as an Iowan of the Day for the 2019 Iowa State Fair on Friday, Aug. 16.

“We moved to Perry, Iowa from Omaha, Nebraska in 1977 and Vicki has been active in the community and area since day one,” said her husband and nominator Jerry Lage.

Initially a stay at home mom, Vicki was a Brownie, 4-H and Cub Scout leader, taught children’s art lessons and donated some of her paintings for charitable causes. She also volunteered to help in community activities, as well as with the local golf course and Elks Club. Vicki later went on to finish her Medical Technician degree while having two active children.

While working full-time, Vicki was the Perry representative for Youth for Understanding (YFU) for eight years in the 1990s. As a volunteer, she recruited host families for foreign exchange students in the local school district and helped plan activities for the students and families in her area. The Lage family also hosted four students themselves.

In 2000, Vicki became involved with the Iowa State Fair and the Blue Ribbon Foundation. She was active with the planning of the Corndog Kickoff Benefit Auction as well as volunteering at the fair.

More recently, Vicki has spent many hours serving at local businesses including the Lutheran Home, Spring Valley Assisted Living Facility, the Hotel Pattee and La Poste event venue. She is also an active member of the Dallas County Foundation, serving as the president this year.

Vicki’s day of recognition was Friday, Aug. 16 at the 2019 Iowa State Fair. She was recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, she received a gift bag, Grandstand tickets, use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart, a cash prize, Iowa State Fair admission tickets and VIP parking.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa’s most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowans across the state who have made a difference in the lives of others, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa- dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
