Big Year Birding Mornings

8:30-11 a.m. Thursday, Friday, July 25-26 at Forest Park Museum and other natural areas.

It’s only July but fall migration is picking up for the shorebirds. Join a naturalist for Birding the Hot Spots of Dallas County. Targets will be summer sparrows and migrating shorebirds. Meet at Forest Park Museum for these morning programs. Come for one or both days. A few binoculars are available. Pre-registration is appreciated (515-465-3577).

Children’s Summer Reading Finale

6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25 at Pattee Park.

Bring lawn chairs and blankets and join us for the children’s Universe of Stories summer reading finale on July 25 at Pattee Park. Ken Keffer, Outreach Coordinator from Dallas County Conservation, will be with us to share stories of outdoor adventures, and we will blow bubbles, enjoy S’mores and hold our grand prize drawings at this event. Two lucky winners will receive copies of one of Ken’s books! You need not be present to win the grand prizes, but we hope you’ll join us at the park for a fun evening!

Perry Community Blood Drive

2-6 p.m. Friday, July 26 at Dallas County Hospital, 610 10th St.

LifeServe Blood Center is the sole provider of blood to more than 120 hospitals and medical centers across Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. We don’t hold blood drives in an area unless we serve that county or city’s hospital. When you donate with LifeServe, you can feel good knowing you could be saving the life of someone you know! Make that lifesaving gift at a local blood drive geared toward giving back to your hometown! The next Perry Community Blood Drive will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Friday, July 26 at Dallas County Hospital.

Adult Summer Reading Finale

6:30 p.m. Monday, July 29 at Perry Public Library large meeting room.

The adult summer reading program will conclude Monday, July 29, with the Game Night finale. We will play games, enjoy refreshments and hold our grand prize drawings at this event. You need not be present to win a grand prize, but don’t miss out on this evening of fun and games! The grand prizes include an Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet, overnight stay at Hotel Pattee and $50 in Perry Bucks. A special prize for the Tic-Tac-Toe participants is a flight around Perry with Walter Aviation!

Alzheimer’s & Dementia Support Group

3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 30 at Perry Public Library

Perry Lutheran Homes hosts the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Group on the last Tuesday of each month. The program is free and open to all. The group is led by Perry Lutheran Homes Chief Care Officer and Certified Dementia Practitioner, Deb Koelln.
