Perry Elks Lodge #407 installed officers for the 2019-2020 lodge year, as well as celebrated member achievements on Saturday, March 30. Elks member, Greg Haglund was installed as Exalted Ruler.
Additionally, the following members were installed: Leading Knight Heather Erickson, Loyal Knight Amber Green, Lecturing Knight Travis Landgrebe, Chaplain Eric Derry, Esquire Delbert Moore, Inner Guard Jill Anderson, Secretary Jon Jamison,Treasurer Dwayne Morman and Trustees Matt Mickelson, Chad Morman and Steve Hick.
Following the installation of officers, the Elk of the Year award was presented to Lisa Widick by Denny Snowgren, last year’s Elk of the Year recipient. Widick joined the Elks organization in 2017, Snowgren says, and is the organization’s first female Elk of the Year in the 120 years the lodge has been in existence.
Widick was recognized for her constant involvement in most all aspects of the Elks organization, including her time working on public relations, which put the organization in both the local and national spotlight, Snowgren said during the presentation.
“We are a team,” Widick said during her acceptance speech. “While this award has my name on it, I couldn’t have been successful without everyone helping out.”
Widick joined the Perry community in early 2016 with her husband Denny, who unexpectedly passed away in December of 2016. She expressed gratitude to the lodge members for being her support system.
Amber Green was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the Iowa National Guard following Perry Lodge’s participation in Camp Dodge’s Adopt-a-Family program. Green devoted herself to the program.
“I’m humbled and surprised by this and so glad we were able to make a difference in a family in need this past Christmas,” said Green.
The organization looks forward to serving Perry youth, veterans and the community in the 2019-2020 lodge year.
