Marc and Misty Ray, who are accused of first degree murder in the death of their 16-year-old, adopted daughter, Sabrina in May of 2017, are now being accused of three new charges, according to online court documents, filed in the Dallas County Courthouse on Wednesday, May 2. The new charges include ongoing criminal conduct - unlawful activity, first degree theft and first degree fraudulent practice.

Court documents allege that Marc and Misty “did obtain a transfer of possession, control or ownership of the property of another by deception with the intent to permanently deprive the owner of such property” and the property exceeded $10,000 in value, resulting in the first degree theft charge, a Class C felony.

Additionally, the document alleges that Marc and Misty, “with the intent to defraud or injure another, did knowingly execute or tender a false certification under penalty of perjury, such false certification given in support of a claim for compensation, restitution or other payment,” with the said payment exceeding $10,000, resulting in the first degree fraudulent practice charge, a Class C felony.

Allegedly committing those offenses “by deception for financial gain on a continuing basis,” between Sept. 1, 2013 and May 12, 2017, according to court documents, resulted in the ongoing criminal conduct charge, a Class B felony.

An arraignment hearing has been scheduled for May 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the Dallas County Courthouse, but the hearing will not be necessary if Marc and Misty choose to submit a written arraignment.

Marc and Misty Ray were arrested on May 18, 2017 by the Perry Police Department after their adopted daughter, Sabrina, was found dead in their home, which doubled as the Rays of Sunshine Daycare. Sabrina weighed only 56 pounds at the time of her death. Marc and Misty were allegedly away on vacation at the time of her death.

The Rays have been charged with child endangerment resulting in death, three counts neglect or abandonment of a dependent person, four counts of child endangerment resulting in serious injury, three counts of first degree kidnapping and first degree murder, in addition to the charges added on May 2.

Additionally, Marc was charged with one count of third degree sexual abuse.

The trial for Marc and Misty has been continued several times. As of now, a trial date has not yet been set.

Three family members were also arrested in connection with the case.

Sabrina’s adoptive grandmother, Carla Bousman was sentenced to 20 years after accepting a guilty plea for neglect of a dependant person, two counts of false imprisonment, one count of accessory after the fact, one county of obstruction of justice and two counts of child endangerment April 6. Sabrina’s adoptive brother, Justin Ray was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of willful injury causing bodily injury on Feb. 16.

Sabrina’s adoptive cousin, Josie Bousman, stands accused of child endangerment resulting in death, three counts of first degree kidnapping and obstructing prosecution or defense. She has agreed to testify against the Rays and will be tried by a jury after Marc and Misty.
