The Perry Chamber of Commerce has announced a new Winter Market to accompany the annual February Chocolate Walk this year. The Winter Market will debut at the Town Craft Building on Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

According to Chamber of Commerce Vice-President, Emily Leslie, who also heads up the Farmers Market, the Board received suggestions about a Winter Market last year.

“I heard, ‘what are you going to do for a winter’s market?’” Leslie said. “We were just trying to get through the summer season, [and we] just continued hearing from the community that they were interested in a farmers market.”

Leslie says the Chamber Board tossed around the idea of pairing the market with a potential event in Perry.

“The Chamber Board was trying to think of when to make it happen where we could have it possibly the same time as a function in Perry to help bring more people to the community and downtown in general,” Leslie said.

After consideration, it was decided to bring the Winter Market to town during Perry’s annual Chocolate Walk.

“The thought behind the Farmers Market [is] it will be free to shop the Market, but we want to encourage people to shop the stores,” Leslie said.”

Around ten vendors have signed up since the notice was made public over the weekend, ranging from both previous vendors to new additions.

The event will also serve as an early meeting for vendors before the summer Farmers Market.

“We want to listen to their concerns and their feedback,” Leslie said.

The vendors and community are excited to bring the event back to Perry a few months early, Leslie says.

“If anybody has any interest in being a vendor, I would encourage them to call the Chamber Office and I’d be glad to talk with them about it,” Leslie said.
