Just two games away from the state tournament, W-G volleyball’s season came to a halt on Thursday, Oct. 25. The Hawks were in Jewel to take on BCLUW, Conrad and fell to their opponent 4-1.
Almost every set saw a less than 3 point margin and W-G was not going home without putting up a good fight. Set number one ended in favor of BCLUW 25-23 while the second set had the exact same turnout. The Hawks were able to shift their momentum for a bit in set number three as they sprung ahead of their opponent and got their first and only win of the night 25-16. The fourth set seemed to resort back to the same back-and-forth effort from each team as the score remained close, but BCLUW took home the last and overall win 25-22.
The team as a whole had 68 total digs before the night was over with 16 of those coming from Ashlyn Soelberg and 15 coming from Anna Tague. Katelyn Bandstra and Katelyn Scharlau each contributed 10 digs while Elly Polich came in with eight.
Out of the 33 total kills of the evening, eight were thanks to Tague and seven were thanks to Natalie Weaver. Seven more of those came from Polich and six from Drake. The Hawks ended the game with nine total blocks and serve efficiency of 0.967.
W-G Volleyball says goodbye to Alissa Smeltzer, Ashlyn Soelberg, and Anna Tague as the three graduate this May. The Hawks finished out their 2018 season 23-11.
