STUART — The Woodward-Granger matmen visited WCV for a quadrangular Jan. 7, with the Hawks defeating the hosts, 66-6, Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton, 48-30, and East Union, 42-30.

Jim Harney (132 pounds) pinned Cole Bruns of EEHK in 2 minutes, 16 seconds, with Race Brant pinning Bill Wang in 1:04 at 145 pounds. All other W-G points came from forfeits.

The dual with host WCV lasted only a few minutes, as the teams double-forfeited at 106 and 195 and contested just one of the 14 weights — the 132-pound class — where Harney pinned Kyle Bates in 2:15. WCV’s only points came from a W-G forfeit at 182.

The Hawks recorded two wins by pin and won two decisions in edging East Union.

Harney put Bobby Hepner’s shoulders to the mat in 1:29 at 132 pounds, with Ryan Hodges nailing Jonathan Stewart in 1:03 at heavyweight.

Aaron Sperling’s 8-4 decision over Dalton Wagner at 138 and Tanner Vermaas’ 8-4 win over Austin Wagner at 152 were the other two contested victories for the Hawks.
