WOODWARD — Visiting Madrid presented little challenge to the W-G netters, who swept their guests, 3-0, in West Central Conference play Tuesday. The Hawks claimed victory with scores of 25-9, 25-9 and 25-14.
"We ran some off-tempo stuff and the girls are starting to get used to it," W-G head coach Meg Jackson said. "I also thought everyone served the ball very well tonight."
The Hawks finished with 18 points off ace serves. Abby Musser was 16-of-16 with five aces, with Olivia McCune 13-13-5 and Bree Lesch 14-14-3 while Tori Manning was 10-11-3 and Mary Hansen 7-9-2.
Musser had eight kills and McCune seven with Cailin Coker, Abby Hansen and Lesch tallying three kills apiece and Mary Hansen one. Maggie Bermel and Mary Hansen provided eight assists apiece, with Coker and McCune each contributing two assists.
"McCune has really increased her hitting proficiency as she is getting more comfortable playing at the net," Jackson said. "She is taking the same number of swings she was earlier in the season, it is just that now those are turning into kills."
Musser led the team with 11 digs, with Lesch adding nine digs and Manning five. Abby Hansen had two blocks at the net and Mary Hansen and Lesch one each.
W-G (13-13, 4-1) returns to the court Tuesday when they host Panorama in a WCC match.
