LAKE CITY — Three Bluejays finished in the top 10 to help power the Perry boys to a team victory at the South Central Calhoun Invitational Tuesday.
Perry junior Atem Akok claimed the individual crown when he finished in 17 minutes, 41.63 seconds. Keegan Pfau was fourth in 18:17.44 and Christian Morales seventh in 18:45.21, with Oscar Chavez 17th in 19:05.5 and Cole Chance 39th in 19:55.98 to give Perry 67 team points, eight better than runner-up OA-BCIG.
Host SCC was third at 121, with Kuemper Catholic (131) fourth and Glenwood (139) fifth in the 16-team field.
Zach Roberts (20:04.06) and Richie Cazares (20:51.19) also ran for the Perry varsity but did not have their points used for the team total.
Pocachontas won the girls varsity side with 32 points, with SCC second at 49 and Greene County third at 61. Perry was eighth in the nine-team field with 194 points.
Leah Reuter was the first Jayette finisher, clocking in 25th in 18:34.1. Jessie Laughridge was 32nd in 18:56.93 and Ahsley McCord 46th in 19:54.49, with Louise Peitz (56th, 20:26.73) and Aurora Rodriguez (61st, 20:3.13) also scoring. Points were not used from the 24:49.69 posted by Nicole Ayala or the 25:42.34 recorded by Irhet Navarrete.
Steven Guardado (21:40.18), Gerardo Garcia (22:02.22), Gustav Winterberg (22:47.86), Fernando Catalan (23:26.16) and Seth Talbot (24:43.47) were the first five finishers for the Perry boys junior varsity. Riley Kimrey (24:47.93), Brody Kimrey (25:51.86), Christian Guardado (26:24.53) and Ivan Hernandez (29:43.27) were also on the course for the Bluejay JV.
The Jayettes had two JV entrants, with Chloe Anderson finishing in 24:03.01 and Kyla Devilbliss crossing in 25:00.95.
