BOONE — A 3-0 sweep at the hands of Boone ousted Perry from the volleyball postseason Monday.

The Jayettes (7-31) fell to the Toreadors (25-18), 25-16, 25-13 and 25-14 in their Class 4A Region 5 first round contest. The meeting between the two Raccoon River Conference foes was the second in five days, as the teams had ended their regular seasons, at Boone, Oct. 24.

Perry fell by a 3-0 margin in the first meeting as well, with Boone winning on scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-19.

While the margins Monday were greater than the previous meeting, first-year Perry head coach Veroncia Roshek thought the Jayettes had given a much better effort.

"The scores tonight (Monday) did not do justice to how much better we played than in the first match," she said. "We were much more aggressive, were running some plays and made much fewer errors."

Maggie Lowe had six kills and 10 assists for Perry, with Claire Marburger and Victoria Hegstrom adding four kills apiece.

Julie Diw provided 10 digs and Grace Marburger five, with the former 7-of-8 serving with one ace while the latter was 10-of-10 behind the line.

Mariah McPartland had 16 kills, 16 digs and two blocks for the hosts, with Katy Lewis tallying 12 kills and Taylor Johnson three blocks.

Carrie Overland had 21 assists and served 19-21-3 for Boone, with Serena Sandvig adding 11 digs to her 12-13-2 serving effort.

"We had a very good end to the year and came together as the season went on," Roshek said. "The girls never gave up and played hard and that is something the girls we have coming back can build on.

"We had to learn and gain experience and to play together as a team as we went along and I think you could start to see that in the second half," she concluded. "We will start next year well ahead of where we did this year."

Claire Marburger had six kills and Tori Miner five, with Ellie Nielsen, Lowe and Hegstrom adding three kills apiece while Julie Diw had one in the Oct. 24 meeting. Lowe had 13 of the 15 assists for the Jayettes while Diw tallied eight digs, Lowe two and Grace Marburger one, with Lowe making two blocks. Hegstrom, Miner and both Marburger sisters had one block apiece.

Diw was 11-13-3 serving, with Miner 9-12-3 and Grace Marburger 9-of-10. Lowe was 6-of-6, Claire Marburger 5-of-6, Hegstrom 2-of-4 and Katelyn Whelchel 3-of-5.

McPartland led Boone with 16 kills, with Sandvig adding nine and Lewis three, with Overland providing 16 assists and Gabby Woods 15.

McPartland led the team with nine digs and joined Johnson and Baily Schminke in recording three blocks apiece while Overland (15-17-3), Woods (11-12-2) and Jennifer Behn (14-14-2) paced the hosts behind the line.
