DES MOINES – The Waukee High School boys bowling team competed at the Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 2A State Bowling Tournament at Plaza Lanes in Des Moines on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Perry High School students Ryley Anderson and Bryce Bucklew are members of the bowling squad.

Bucklew, a junior, bowled a 223 in the first game and 159 in the second to finish with a total of 382 pins. That helped Waukee finish fifth in the final team standings at the tournament.

Davenport North finished on top of the team standings with a total score of 3,269 while Dubuque Hempstead was second, Clinton third, and West Des Moines Valley fourth.

Bucklew was a returning varsity letter-winner for the Warriors. He finished third on the team in average with just over 192 per game and second in strikes with 225 total over the season. Bryce’s high game for the season was a 256 versus Urbandale.

Anderson is a first-year letterwinner for Waukee. He finished the season with just over a 170 average.

"Ryley’s highlight was being named All-Conference during the Central Iowa Conference Bowling Invite," commented Waukee head coach Charles Folsom.

Waukee finished 9-4 in the regular season, fifth at the conference tournament, first at the state qualifier tournament and fifth overall in the class 2A state finals.

Waukee was led by Jonah Starmer, who was crowned the individual state champion. Starmer came out on fire in game one, bowling a 268 and recording a 232 in game two. His 500 total score was top at the tourney.
