The Jayette netters were at Saydel on Monday, Sept. 24 for several back-to-back matches against various area teams.


The first victory from Perry came when they took on Clarke, Osceola in three sets. Perry won the first 21-16, lost the second 21-14, and closed out the third with a close score of 15-13. Mackenzie Ayers had six digs in those three sets with one assist and one block. Stephanie Garcia, Gabby West, and Jayna Kenney each had two digs in game one while Kacy Nevitt racked up three of her own as well as eight kills. Jasmine Shriver came out of the first match with four kills and Quin Whiton cmae out with two. The sole libero among the Jayettes ended match one with 11 digs and one kill.


Next, Perry took on the host of the tournament and beat Saydel in two sets, 21-12 and 21-18. Nevitt contributed to victory number two with seven kills and three digs along with Shriver who ended with four kills and eight digs. Orellana went in four nine successful digs and Ayers had three kills before the end of the match.


The momentum continued into the third match as the Jayettes versed Des Moines North for another win in two sets 21-11 and 21-12. Orellana and Shriver had the most digs among the two with six coming from Orellana and four from Shriver. West came in with one kill, Whiton had two kills, and Nevitt saw success with eight kills.


Des Moines East was the one team to shut down Perry’s winning streak on Monday night in two close-scoring sets. The Jayettes lost after putting up two good fights, 22-20 and 21-18. Orellana saw an evening and team high of 15 digs against their last opponent. Jayna Kenney contributed six digs and Shriver came in with five. Nevitt had twelve kills and two digs to end the tournament.


Perry Volleyball sees a quick turnaround as they head into another match on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at home. This match will be the Dig for a Cure Night and profits from the fundraising on this night will support Dallas County Relay for Life. Fans are encouraged to wear pink as the Jayettes take on Carroll.
