In a double matchup against Madrid on June 25, Hawks baseball started off the week with two victories against their opponent.


Starting with one suspended game rescheduled from May 29, Woodward-Granger defeated Madrid 7-5.


Bryce Achenbach batted 3-for-2, scored one run, and three RBIs before the game was over while Reese Jamison went 4-for-2, scored a run of his own and three RBIs as well.


Cole Theisen and Joe Rhodes each scored a run with one RBI coming from Rhodes.


Jay Dorenkamp had the team high of two runs in game one while another run came from Hunter Pifer and one more from Jack Grell.


Brandon Worley struck out three Madrid batters in three innings and came out with only three earned runs and no base on balls.


Theisen pitched the other four innings, ending the game with two strikeouts, no earned runs, and three bases on balls.


Game two was more of a close call between the two teams, but the Hawks won again 3-1.


Achenbach and Brummond showed their batting skills once again by gaining one of those runs each. Worley scored the only other run of the game while Grell and Jamison each contributed an RBI.


Dorenkamp took the mound to strikeout four Madrid batters while also having no earned runs.


Woodward-Granger is now 15-5 overall and will play their next game on Tuesday at Greene County starting at 7 p.m. followed by another away game versus Des Moines Christian on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
