A double digit win season (10-6) ended on Wednesday for Perry’s girls’ soccer team after getting edged out 2-1 at the Class 2A Region 3 Semifinals.
At Adel on May 30, the Jayettes (1-1) fell one goal short of defeating their Raccoon River Conference rivals, the A-D-M Tigers (1-0).
For much of the first half the two teams chased each other up and down the field. Right before the half, the Tigers finally sneaked their first goal past senior goalie Salena Garcia.
Garcia had a solid game. She saved 12 shots on goal but allowed the eventual game winning goal early into the second half.
It seemed that the Tigers had the game in hand that was until junior and team leader in goals Natalie Martinez scored an unassisted goal, which brought the team within a point.
The close contest was a far cry from the 10-0 defeat Perry suffered back about three weeks ago on May 8.
