Perry girls’ soccer squad are only a win away from heading to the Class 2A Region 3 final, after defeating the Collins-Maxwell Spartans, 5-3 in the first round of postseason action.

At Perry on Thursday May 24, the Jayettes (1-0) recorded five unassisted goals while the defense held the Spartans (0-1) at bay.

Jayettes leader in goals this season, junior Natalie Martinez, accounted for four of the team’s total points. Sophomore Molly Lutmer was responsible for the other score.

Perry’s defense saw two goalies split the 80 minute contest. Senior Salena Garcia and sophomore Perla Odaly combined for four saves. The former gave up a goal, while the latter allowed two.

Up next, the Jayettes head to some familiar waters when they travel to Adel on Tuesday May 29, when they face Raccoon River Conference rivals, the A-D-M Tigers (1-0).

The winner of that matchup, will face off against either the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs, or the Ballard Bombers in the regional finals on June 4.
