It is always a great feeling to beat your opponent, but equally rewarding when your 3-2 win versus a conference rival also ends a two game losing streak.
On Tuesday, May 1, Perry girls’ soccer squad held strong to defeat Raccoon River Conference foe, the Ballard Bombers (4-4).
In front of the home fans, the Jayettes (4-3) showcased their grit during a seesaw battle that could’ve ended the wrong way for the home team.
Perry junior Natalie Martinez, continued her climb to the top of the RRC scoring leaders’ board after adding another two goals. She’s now in sole possession of second place with 13 goals in just seven games. Teammate, sophomore Jackie Guardado added the team’s other goal.
For the duration of the 80-minute contest, the home team’s offense became a familiar face to the Bombers’ goalie junior Sierra Knight.
The Jayettes continuously attempted to increase their score only to see Knight ward off nine attempts. Fortunately for the host, they managed to sneak the eventual game winner past her.
It was a short rest week for the Jayettes who found themselves hosting non-conference opponent, the Gilbert Tigers on Thursday, May 3.
