Heavy winds did not deter Perry girls’ track & field squad who recorded a fifth place finish with 62 points at the Ballard Invite.
Two individual Jayettes, Jasmine Shriver and Sidney Vancil earned top places. Seven others - five individuals and two teams combined for top five finishes.
At Ballard on April 27, Shriver posted a personal best time of 13.01 in the 100. Vancil continued her successful season when she posted a new PB in the 800 with a 2:28.20.
Teammate Grace Stewart also had a PB time of 11:29.10 for second place in the 3,000. The Sprint Medley team of Kennedy Tunink, Quinn Whiton, Shriver, and Vancil took second with a time of 2:00.16.
Whiton made her presence known at the long jump competition when she recorded a measurement of 14-06.50 for third. Shriver finished fifth. Also in third was Rylynn Gilmore for her shot put toss of 29-04.50.
Fourth finishers were Stewart in the 1500 and the 4x400 team of Shriver, Isabel Saemisch, Damaris Robles, and Vancil. Whiton earned fifth in the 200 with a PB of 29.29.
The North Polk Comets took the top spot with 152 points, followed by the Gilbert Tigers with 130 and the host Bombers with 99.
Fourth place went to Iowa Falls-Alden with 83 points. Sixth and seventh was Des Moines Lincoln with 35, and South Tama with 24.
The team heads to Carlisle on May 3, when they partake in this season’s Raccoon River Conference Meet.
