It wasn’t an overall win for the Jayettes, but according to Perry head coach Joel Happel, the team showed promise in their first event this season.
“Good team score overall,” Happel said.“The course was only a par 34 (so scores are normally lower than a typical par 36).”
The four Perry golfers, Alyssa Kruger, Hannah Roberts, Skylar Cunningham, and Delaney Eiteman combined for a round of 199 and a second place finish at the Hill Golf Course in Grand Junction, Iowa.
Kruger led her squad with a round of 41. For her performance she earned her meet medalist. She opened the April 5, event up with a par and then six straight bogeys before a par on eight and then closed it out with a bogey.
“Great job out of Senior Alyssa Kruger,” Happel noted. “She said she didn’t necessarily hit the ball as good as she capable of, but hit some good recovery shots. She didn’t have any big holes that hurt her.”
Ten strokes behind Kruger was Roberts with a 51. Cunningham followed with a 53 and Eiteman was a stroke back with a 54.
“We only took four players (normally six),” Happel said. “Hannah Roberts had a good round to start her year.”
Overall, the Des Moines Christian Lions captured first place with a round of 192. The host Greene County Rams shot a 203.
After playing two courses this past week the girls will travel to Winterset on Saturday, April 14, to take on the Huskies.
