DECORAH — The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced on Wednesday, Feb. 28, the 17-member women’s basketball all-conference team.

Luther junior forward Claire Marburger, a 2015 graduate of Perry High School, was named first-team all-conference for the second year in a row, the first time in a Norse uniform. Marburger transferred to Luther this year after playing for two years at Central College where she was named first team for the 2016-17 campaign and second team in 2015-16.

Marburger helped lead Luther to a league record of 12-4, 19-10 overall. The Norse qualified for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament for a fourth consecutive year and also advanced to the championship game for a fourth time, losing to nationally ranked No. 2 Wartburg College 86-74 in the tournament finale.

She led the Norse in scoring and rebounding producing 487 points and 199 rebounds.

Marburger is the daughter of Dan and Elizabeth Marburger of Perry, Iowa.

Luther College is a four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran Church (ELCA) and is located in Decorah, Iowa. The Norse compete in 10 men’s and nine women’s intercollegiate sports.

As a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) since 1922, the men have won 166 conference championships. In 1982 the IIAC expanded its championship sponsorship to include women’s sports. During this time span, the women have won 79 team titles. Combined, Luther is the first school in the Iowa Conference to capture 245 league titles.
