The Perry boys’ basketball team closed the book on its regular season with a 79-64 non-conference match versus the Creston Panthers (10-11).
The home loss on Feb. 15, marked the third time this season the Bluejays (5-16) recorded four or more straight losses.
It was an uphill climb for the home team from the start who finished the first quarter down by eight after an 18-10 Panthers advantage.
The Bluejays stepped up their play in the second when they kept pace with the road team who scored 19 while the host added 15.
After halftime the Bluejays continued their attempts to erase the 12 point deficit but despite scoring 21 in the third the margin grew by three after 24 points from the Panthers.
It remained that way through the entire final quarter with each team’s offense mimicking the other as they each scored 18 points.
The Bluejays headed to Harlan on Feb. 20, for a first round matchup against the host Cyclones in a Class 3A Substate 8 showdown.
