The more the merrier might be this year’s theme for the Perry Area Swim Team who on Feb. 10, had four swimmers combine for a total of six qualifying state and regional events.
“We had a small group representing PAWS today in Grinnell, but we are still not short on new qualifiers,” PAWS parent volunteer Stacy Vaughn posted on Facebook. “
In the 100-freestyle event both Emily Dowd (11) and Amanda Holwegner (15) hit their marks with times of 1:16.75 and fifth place for Dowd.
At 1:06.06 and in third place was Holwegner who also qualified for state in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 39.15 for first place.
Karolus (13) also made some waves in the 50-breaststroke event who placed first with her time of 39.66. Her time of 28.46 in the 50 freestyle qualified her for regionals.
The final state qualifier of the day was 14-year old Andrew Dowd who at the breaststroke event garnered a first place victory with a time of 1:19.06.
After the meet and like so many other proud PAWS parent, Perry resident Hilliary Mahler took to her own social media to recognize the team’s accomplishment and their parents’ dedication.
“Good job to our Perry swimmers who braved the snow this morning (and their parents that drove them!),” Perry resident and PAWS parent Hilliary Mahler wrote.
