Woodward-Granger’s boys’ basketball team won their fifth West Central Activities Conference game last Friday night with a 62-37 victory over the AC/GC Chargers (3-9, 2-7).
The home Jan. 5 victory for the Hawks (7-4, 5-4) played out close for one quarter, 12-7, before the host turned up the offense in both the second and third quarters.
In the second the Hawks’ defense held the the road team again to under double figures at seven while the offense scored 15.
After the half the home team continued their scoring with 18 points and the defense relentlessly stifled the Chargers who put up just five points.
With the team up 24 the Hawks slightly took their foot off the defensive pedal as they allowed 16 points but the offense played solid with 17.
Hawks’ junior Sam Peterson led the squad with 15 points on a 6-for-12 shooting night including six points on two made three pointers.
Teammate, senior J.P. Nixon recorded eight of the team’s 25 rebounds - 15 defensive and 10 offensive.
As a squad the Hawks finished with 17 assists - nine from sophomore Bryce Achenbach, 13 steals - Achenbach with four, and one block from Achenbach.
It was a great bounce-back win for the the home team after dropping a Jan. 2 conference game 50-40 versus the Earlham Cardinals.
