After earning a season debut win over the Collins-Maxwell Spartans, the Woodward-Granger girls’ basketball team posted back-to-back losses.
The latest defeat came at the hands of the host and West Central Activities Conference opponents the West Central Valley Wildcats (1-1, 1-0) in a close 55-51 contest.
On Tuesday, Nov. 28 the Hawks’ (1-2, 0-1) sluggish first quarter output of 10 points coupled with the home team’s 22 points was the team’s ultimate demise.
Into the second quarter and down by 12 points the Hawks bounced back to outscore their host by two at 12-10.
The strong play continued after the half with the Hawks keeping pace with the Wildcats as both teams ended knotted at 12.
In the final quarter the Hawks continued to decrease the early 10 point lead with a 17-11 run but that output wasn’t enough.
It was the same result but a more decisive outcome when the Hawks faced off against the Blue Devils of Martensdale-St Marys (1-1) on Monday, Nov. 27.
At Martensdale the Hawks’ offense couldn’t get things going in the first 16 minutes as the host outscored their guests 26-10.
The Hawks made it a closer second half with both teams scoring 11 in the third and the Blue Devils edging out the fourth 10-9.
This Friday, Dec. 1, the Hawks play their the fourth straight game on the road when they travel to Des Moines for a match versus conference nemesis the Lions.
