An early 13 point lead became nothing more than a number on a stat sheet for the Jayettes who dropped their second straight after a 63-52 finish against the Greene County Rams (2-0).
Despite 20 points from senior Isabel Saemisch and a 19-6 first quarter lead the Perry Jayettes’ basketball team (1-2) stumbled late in Tuesday’s road game at Jefferson.
After a solid first quarter the Jayettes allowed the Rams to stampede back into the game when the home team posted 25 points to the visitors’ 13 for a Jayettes’ one point lead at the half.
It was a solid first 16 minutes of play for the road team who finished with four made treys, and 8-for-10 from the line.
The Rams erased their one point deficit and took a seven point lead at the end of the third with a 15-7 quarter.
With just over five minutes left in the game and down by nine points Perry’s offensive weapon, Saemisch, picked up her fifth foul on an offensive play.
The Jayettes pulled to within five points at 57-52 with 92 seconds remaining but miss opportunities and unsuccessful free throws ended any chances of stealing the game.
Perry opens up conference play this Friday at home against Raccoon River Conference foes the Carroll Tigers.
Game and individual stats were not available by press time.
