The Iowa Newspaper Associate released its All-State Football teams on Tuesday. The players were selected by a vote by newspapers from across the State of Iowa.

Perry didn’t have any first-team selections, but did have two that received honors in Class 3A. Wide receiver Reece Dunlap and punter, German Alvarenga were both named to the second team.

Dunlap had a big impact on the offensive side of the ball in his senior year, leading the way with 866 total offensive yards between through nine games as the Bluejays finished 4-5 on the year.

He led the team with 593 yards on 37 catches, tying for the team lead with six receiving touchdowns. He also recorded 37 rushing attempts for 273 yards (7.4 yards per carry), second best on the team, and two scores on the ground.

Dunlap was also a force on special teams, recording nine kick off returns for 246 yards (27.3 yards per return), including a 95-yard touchdown. He also returned four punts for 66 yards, second best on the team, for 66 yards (16.5 yards per return).

Dunlap played defense as well, recording four interceptions, including a 48-yard pick-6, while also recording 35.5 tackles on the year.

Alvarenga punted the ball 46 times this year with an average of 38 yards per punt, with a long punt of 76 yards. He also recorded nine touchbacks as the kicker on kickoffs.

As the team’s kicker, he went 4-for-4 on field goal attempts, with a season-long of 35 yards, and was 23-of-26 on the year on extra point attempts.

The Bluejays won their season opener against North Polk and then won three of their final four games of the year to finish 4-5 overall. The Bluejays did not qualify for the State Playoffs.
