The 2017-2018 season for Perry’s volleyball team and their head coach officially came to an end after suffering a three set sweep against the Harlan Cyclones (23-12).
It was the Jayettes’ (7-26) final match of their season when they traveled to Harlan for some Class 4A Region 2 postseason round action.
The host made some quick work of their guests with straight set wins of 25-14, 25-11 and the Jayettes’ closest match of the night at 25-16.
“I thought that we played an excellent game last night against a very good Harlan team. They had a bunch of girls that could put the ball down from anywhere,” Perry’s head coach John Fulton said.
Johanna Diw, Jayettes’ senior, finished off her season the way she began it with a team leading 13 kills in her 22 attempts.
She ended her season with 251 kills in 668 attack attempts for a 20.1 percent efficiency. She was also second in both aces with 18 and blocks with eight.
Senior Sidney Vancil added another assist leading night to her resume with 15. For the season she recorded 393 of them and a team leading 34 aces.
Fellow senior Sydney Guerra also did what the team has become accustomed too. She led the squad in digs with 10. For the season she amassed a team leading 278.
Together the Jayettes finished with 18 kills, 18 assists, 20 digs, and almost a 91 percent serve efficiency after a 39-for-43 performance.
“Overall I think we got the most out of the girls that we had. We had four excellent seniors (Sidney Vancil, Sydney Guerra, Isabel Saemisch and Jo Diw) who will definitely be missed,” Fulton said. They were about 80% of our offense and defense and we will have some big shoes to fill going into the offseason and into the next season.”
