Perry’s volleyball team had their best outing of the year when they finished with two wins in four games at the Jayette Invitational.
Wins have been a tough thing to come by this season for the Jayettes (5-20) but last Thursday, Oct. 5, the squad finally finished .500 against some good competition.
In their two wins the squad had to battle through some tough adversity to defeat the 22-10 Roland-Story Norsemen but breezed to a victory against the Saydel Eagles (3-19).
Their 2-1 series win versus the Norsemen didn’t come easy for the Jayettes who edged out their opposition 21-19 in the first set, then were dominated 21-9 in set two but ultimately nabbed the final set 15-12.
Together the Jayettes finished 40-of-47 in serves, 23-of-72 in kills (Johanna Diw -17), with 23 assists (Sidney Vancil- 20), 29 digs (Sydney Guerra - 9), three total blocks, and three aces.
In their final win of the evening, the Jayettes easily handled the Eagles with straight set wins of 21-6 and 21-8.
Diw again led the team with 13 of the total 20 kills, Guerra accounted for three of the five digs and Vancil recorded all 22 of the squad’s assists.
The team only misfired on four serves giving them a 37-for-41 night for a 90 percent serve efficiency. They also finished with three total blocks and 10 aces.
It would be a whole different result when the host faced off against the Ballard Bombers (18-11) and the Woodward-Granger Hawks (18-11).
The Jayettes couldn’t put any solid plays together as they fell to the Bombers in straight sets 21-9 and 21-18 and then to the Hawks 21-11 and 21-18.
Tomorrow the Jayettes travel to Huxley to face off against Raccoon River Conference foe Bombers.
