After a 4-6 record in their previous 10 games the Woodward-Granger Hawks’ volleyball team have put together four straight wins including three straight in the West Central Activities Conference.
The Hawks (14-10, 4-1) have climbed to within half a game of WCAC foe the Van Meter Bulldogs after taking care of the AC/GC Chargers (14-7, 3-3) in three straight sets.
On the road last night at Guthrie Center the Hawks spoiled their host’s hospitality with wins of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-19.
In their three sets the Hawks finished 65-of 74 in serves for an efficiency rating of 87.8 percent. They connected on 35-of-97 kills, tallied 34 assists, 44 digs, a solo block and 16 aces.
Two Hawks had a perfect serving night. Seniors Kaycee Major and Katelyn Bandstra combined for 33 serves - Major 13 and Bandstra 10. Major also led the team in both aces with five and digs with 13.
Fellow senior Alyssa Bice led the squad in kills with 11 and recorded two aces. Sophomore Emma Drake recorded 29 assists and five digs and was second on the team in aces with four.
The win puts the Hawks within reach of a possible conference title, but the team still needs the Des Moines Christian Lions (2-0) to falter a bit if they want a chance at another crown.
It will be a week of purely practices for the squad who prepares for a date with the Panorama Panthers at home next Tuesday, Oct. 3.
