A long day of events culminated in a ninth place finish for Perry’s swim team as they accumulated 68 points to finish 16 points ahead of the Algona Bulldogs (52).
It was a long grueling Sept. 16 day, for the Jayettes’ swim team at this season’s Gary Winkler Invitational in Ft. Dodge.
“This was a chance for our team to get practice in a prelims/final style of meet,” Perry’s head coach Jean Dowd said.
A 10 team meet whose swimmers must compete in preliminary rounds before the finals, saw Cedar Falls take the top spot with a commanding 471.5 points.
Second place went to Lewis Central with 328 points, followed by Ft. Dodge with 301.5, with Linn-Mar in fourth with 233.was fourth.
Carroll’s 230.5 points placed them fifth , Spencer was next with 183, in seventh was Sioux City Metro’s 159.5, and Storm Lake finished eighth with 102 points.
For the Jayettes’ the team recorded their lone podium spot of the day when the 400-freestyle relay team of Sarah Vaughn, Avery Miner, Dannah Karolus, and Breanna Penenger finished fifth overall.
Other individual and team performances:
200 Medley Relay - prelim and final swim Vivian Gonzalez, Anna Ridnour, Karolus, and Vaughn turned in a season best relay time in finals placing ninth
200 Freestyle - Miner finished 27th, and Ridnour placed 21st in prelim swims
200 IM - Penenger 23rd in a prelim swim.
50 Free prelims- Amanda Holwegner finished 29th with a personal best time and Shekynah Haworth recorded a personal best time to place 61st.
500 Freestyle - Vaughn placed 18th in prelims, Penenger 13 in prelims and 13th in finals with a season best time.
200 Freestyle Relay - Prelim team of Ridnour, Holwegner, Abby Herman, and Karolus came in ninth.
The Finals team of Ridnour, Miner, Karolus, and Penenger also finished ninth and with a season best relay time.
100 Backstroke - In the prelims, Haworth placed 41st with a personal best time while Vaughn came in 29th, and Gonzalez was 28th.
100 Breaststroke Prelims - Amanda Holwegner 31st, Anna Ridnour 26th.
