Perry’s football team suffered their third loss this season after a 41- 7 affair against Class 3A District 2 and undefeated rivals the Boone Toreadors.
On the road at Boone on Friday, Sept. 15, the Bluejays (1-3, 0-2) didn’t have any answers for a Toreador offensive (4-0, 2-0) attack that racked up 483 yards, five touchdowns, three PATs and a two point conversion.
Their defense also got into the mix contributing six points off their second interception of the night when Quali Sporaa returned it 35 yards for the score.
It was a different story for the Bluejays’ offense who recorded just 71 yards with zero touchdowns.
More than half of Perry’s offensive yards was credited to starting quarterback, senior Alexis Garrido who finished his night 5-for-12 for 38 yards. He also rushed eight times for six yards.
The quarterback’s five attempts fell into the hands of just two players, seniors Brandon Kenyon and Drew Levan. Kenyon nabbed four receptions for 32 yards.
The Bluejays’ ground game was led by senior Reece Dunlap who gained 23 yards on six carries. Dunlap accounted for the team’s lone score when he hit pay dirt on a 95-yard kickoff return early in the contest.
As a defensive unit the Bluejays tallied 65.5 total tackles four of them for a loss including two sacks.
Junior Kaleb Olejniczak led the group with a team high 10.5 tackles with seven solo and seven tackle assists.
Up next the Bluejays face another undefeated squad in the 4-0 DC-G Mustangs when they meet each other this Friday at the Dewey Field.
