Perry’s Cross Country teams finished the 37th annual Ballard Invite with the Jayettes in 10th place with 263 points and the Bluejays landing in 11th with 307 points.


For the second time in less than a week the team made their way to another meet this Monday Sept. 11, to face off against a slew of opponents including the host Bombers.


The Jayettes managed to edge out the Boone Toreadors by just two points thanks in large part to senior Grace Stewart who finished 24th overall. She was a full nine places ahead of Boone’s first finisher, senior Hannah Eppert.


Despite missing several meets with a small knee injury, Stewart led her Jayettes’ teammates with a time of 22:42.


Sophomore Hannah Peterson finished 53rd and senior Julissa Calderon rounded out the top three Perry finishers when she finished at 57th.


In the girls’ meet the host Bombers took first place with 48 points, followed by the Pella Lady Dutch with 52 and in third were the DC-G Fillies with 55 points.


Fourth place went to the Winterset Huskies (136), fifth were the Norwalk Warriors (159), sixth place were the A.D.M. Tigers (176), in seventh were the Bondurant-Farrar Lady Jays (192), ninth were the Carlisle Wildcats (229) followed by the Webster City Lynx (244).


On the boys side, the DC-G Mustangs’ 44 points earned them first place, with the Wildcats in second with 66 and the Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays in third with 82.


The Tigers (117) finished fourth, with the Lynx (145) in fifth, the Pella Dutch (155) in sixth, the Huskies (169) took seventh, Boone (191) in eighth, the Bombers (243) fell to ninth and in 10th place were the Warriors (278).


Zach Thompson, Perry senior, was once again leading the Bluejay pack when he finished 37th with a time of 19:23. Sophomore Eduardo Sanchez placed 58th and the team’s third place finisher was senior Zach Stewart in 69th.


In total Perry H.S. sent 14 runners to Huxley:
