Perry swimmers record five personal times at Des Moines Roosevelt meet

Perry’s swim team recorded five personal best times at Des Moines Roosevelt despite losing to both the host Rough Riders and Indianola Indians.

The Jayettes didn’t let the final scores of 151-31 versus the Roughriders and 134-35 against the Indians get the best of them as they recorded some impressive individual times. The host also beat the Indians 102-81.

Four swimmers accounted for all of the team’s five best times, led by Amanda Holwegner who finished her night with two.

In the 50 freestyle, Holwegner’s time of 30.93 was just a little over three seconds behind both Indianola’s Brittany Scovel 27:22 and Roughrider’s Olivia Dotson 27:84. Fellow Jayette Abby Herman finished a place ahead of Holwegner with a 30:30.

Holwegner recorded her second-best time of the night when she finished the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:31.48 for eighth. Teammate Anna Ridnour finished seventh with a 1:26.57.

Ridnour’s 2:23.70 has been her best time so far in the 200 freestyle where she finished in seventh place. Following right behind was fellow Perry swimmer Avery Miner, with a 2:31.15.

Miner saved her best performance in the 500-freestyle when she dropped her time by 16.65 seconds for a final time of 6:39.25 for eighth. Jayettes’ Brianna Penenger finished fourth with a 6:09.82.

Rounding out the night’s best individual performances was Herman whose personal best time of 1:06.89 in the 100-freestyle placed her seventh.
