For the second night in less than a week, Perry’s baseball squad suffered a one run loss in a non-conference game against the Grinnell Tigers (18-14).
On Monday at Perry, the Bluejays (6-18) dropped a close 2-1 game when the Tigers scored their final and eventual winning run with three innings remaining.
As a team the Bluejays recorded their lone run on six hits and drew six walks off of the Tigers’ starting pitcher Jayden Gibson, who fanned 10 batters.
It was a close contest from the first pitch with both team’s throwers doing their best to silence the other.
The visitors took the early one run lead in the first but in the bottom of the third the Bluejays countered with the tying run.
It was a tie that lasted mere pitches when the following inning the Tigers chipped away to add their second and final run of the game.
The Bluejays are back in action this Thursday July 6, when they travel to Carroll of another non conference game vs the Kuemper Catholic Knights.
