A final run in the top of the sixth inning kept Perry’s baseball team a run shy of a tie in the Bluejays 5-4 RRC (Raccoon River Conference) defeat versus the Ballard Bombers.
At Slater last Thursday, the Bluejays (6-17, 5-8) couldn’t keep the Bombers (13-14, 6-5) from the win when the home team scored their final run in the seventh.
The game opened up with the Bluejays taking the early 2-1 lead after two innings, which swung back the Bombers way in the third when the home team added two runs for the 3-2 lead.
After the Bombers pushed their lead to 4-2 after four innings the Bluejays crawled back to within one run when they scored in the fifth.
The following inning saw the Bluejays erase their host’s lead when they added a run that tied the contest at four.
The possibility for extra innings changed in the bottom of the seventh as the Bombers crushed the Bluejays’ hopes.
As a team the Bluejays tallied eight hits, drew two walks and struck out six times.
