Another 10-0 shutout win gave Woodward-Granger’s baseball team their 16th win of the season to remain perfect.
At Granger on June 13, for the second time this season West Central Conference foe the Earlham Cardinals (6-9, 3-7) fell victims to the Hawks (16-0, 9-0).
It was the fifth time this season and the third game in a row that the Hawks held their opponent scoreless.
Cole Theisen, Hawks’ starting pitcher, recorded his third win of the season after tossing five solid innings where he gave up just five hits. while fanning down seven batters.
W-G took care of Earlham in the first inning. They scored four runs and then the following inning added another run.
After a scoreless third inning, the Hawks scored four runs in the fourth and shut the door on the Cardinals chances with a game ending run in the fifth.
Matt Rhodes, Hawks’ left fielder, led the team with three hits. Spencer Hanson, Hawks’ third baseman, tallied 3 RBIs and belted the game’s only home run.
Both W-G players Marcus McConahay, second baseman, and Theisen finished tied for second on the team in hits with two each.
Offensively, the Hawks connected for 11 hits on 21 at bats. They recorded a double and a triple and stole three bases.
Currently the Hawks are ranked No. 8 in the Class 2A, according to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA).
