The Woodward-Granger girl’s 4x800 track team made a 40-minute drive to Des Moines for a shot at first place at the State Tournament.


Host Drake University welcomed in a number of different schools for a three day tourney that began on Thursday morning.


In their first and only event of the afternoon the Hawks sent out junior Katelyn Peters, sophomore Anna Tague, and freshmen Emma Drake and Natalie Helbling.


The girls ended their Class 2A preliminaries with a time of 10 minutes and 35.44 seconds to finish 23 of 24 teams.


W-G’s Emily Drake was up early on Saturday when she competed in the girls 800-meter run against 23 other competitors. Drake’s time of 2:25.13 placed her 11th overall in the 800-meter run, in her first individual state event.
