The Bluejays’ (9-3) near half dozen goals against the Ballard Bombers (4-4) led them to a sixth straight win.
Five Perry players contributed a goal each at Tuesday’s home game. Jesus Rodriguez added another goal to his conference leading 14.
Teammates German Alvarenga, Jehovany Rivera, Moses Tellez, and Anthony Velasco each scored a goal in the 5-2 win.
After posting three straight shutout games the Bluejays were finally scored upon when by the Bombers who sneaked two goals past Perry goalie Anthony Aragon.
They were the first scores Aragon had given up since allowing one goal to Bondurant-Farrar on April 18. He’s given up just three goals during the team’s current streak.
Gary Overla, Perry’s head coach, is proud of his team’s offensive capabilities but admits that the score could have been a lot more lopsided.
“We probably missed a half dozen opportunities on goal, so we left quite a few out on the field,” he said.
Although the head coach will take the win he would like to see the team remain focus for the entire 80 minutes.
“Kids played well enough to win but I would definitely like to see us play with a bit more of an edge, we tend to be sloppy at times and don’t seem to be very focused,” Overla said. “We gave up some pretty easy opportunities also. If we are truly trying to be a team that wants to compete at the state tournament level we really need to clean that up.”
The Bluejays are back in action at home this Thursday when the take on the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs.
