It wasn’t their best outing of the season but the Perry Jayettes’ track and field team competed at their best at this season’s Tiger Invitational.
At Tuesday’s invite hosted by A-D-M the Jayettes’ 34 points landed them in sixth place. Waukee earned the top spot with 155 points.
In second place was the host with 132.5 and DC-G’s 111 points finished third. Boone came in fourth place with 80.5 points while Des Moines North finished fifth with 56.
As it has been all season Matt Hardy, Jayette coach, focused on his team’s improvements rather than their setbacks.
Hardy celebrated season best times and distance for four individuals and one medley team.
In the 200 meter Haley Vaughn finished sixth with her season best time of 30.23, which was just three seconds behind the first place victor.
Teammate Breanna Penenger also recorded sixth in the 400-meter hurdle with a time of 1:17.58 about a second behind a top five finish.
Grace Stewart’s time of 12:06.72 earned her third in the 300 meter. Perry’s Joselyn Carrillo finished seventh with her best time of 13:03.35.
The 800-meter medley team of Emma Humpal, Vaughn, Rachel Kinney and Penenger recorded a time of 2:04.59 for fifth place.
The highest individual finish of the afternoon belonged to Perry’s Sidney Vancil who placed second in the 800 run with a time of 2:36.59. Fellow runner Aliece Fox finished 11th.
In the field events, Hardy was proud of Rylynn Gilmore who tossed a season best measurement of 82 feet and 10 inches for sixth place. Adrian Thompson placed 11th.
