At their own invitational, the Woodward-Granger Hawks boys’ team fell just six strokes back of claiming the first place prize from the Ballard Bombers.
On April 13, the Hawks finished with an 18-hole round of 336 but their guest Bombers combined for a 330. The Perry Bluejays placed third with a 345 and finishing fourth were the Madrid Tigers with a 362.
With an invitational round of 79, Austin Ober (W-G) finished in second place overall - just eight strokes behind medalist winner Noah Bartman of Ballard.
On the front nine he started off strong with a birdie, a par, then two straight birdies and a par.
Ober then struggled a little finishing the final four holes with three bogeys and one double bogey for a 37. He scored a 42 in the back nine with a birdie, two pars, four bogeys and two doubles.
Teammate Brady Aunspach finished just four strokes back with an 83. Nick Brummond shot an 85 with the final score coming from Joe Rhodes’ 89.
Other Hawks golfers combined for a 440 to tie the Bombers junior varsity team for second place.
Max Helbling shot a 90, Hunter Pierce with a 92, Nick Buch with a 115 and Liam Anderson shot a 143.
The team hit the links on April 17, when they hosted the Des Moines Christian Lions and the Ogden Bulldogs.
