It wasn’t the result the Perry Jayettes track and field team had hoped for when they traveled to Carroll for this season’s invitational.

The Jayettes ended their night looking up at five other teams as they finished sixth place with 48 points.

Matt Hardy, Jayette head coach, experimented with some different roster positions. The results might not have been ideal but the coach always looks at the positives.

“We shuffled the lineup last night and kind of a mixed bag of performances,” he said. “The distance medley team placed first with solid legs being run by each girl.”

The 1600-distance medley relay team, recorded the team’s only first place finish with a time of 4:40.39.

That team of Rachel Kinney, Breanna Penenger, Haley Vaughn, and Sidney Vancil ran right through their competition at almost four seconds better than second place the Carroll Tigers.

Penenger continued to make solid strides with another strong finish in the 400 hurdles, according to Hardy. She had another strong showing with a second place finish said the coach

Grace Stewart placed second in the 3000, dropping 17 seconds from her previous race.

Teammate Joselyn Carrillo recorded a personal record in the 1500-meter run by dropping her time by seven seconds and placing fourth with a time of 6:14.48.

First place went to the host Carroll with 152 points, second IKM-Manning with 111, and third was Greene County with 100. Maple Valley A-O placed fourth with 86 and in fifth was Woodward-Granger with 66.

The Jayettes lace them up again this Thursday at home as they host a number of schools at this year’s Kaufman Invitational.
