After a 1-2 record at last Saturday’s tournament, the Perry Bluejays (5-3) were back to their winning ways with a close 1-0 victory over the visiting Des Moines East Scarlett Indians (3-1).
For 80 minutes the soccer team’s defense led by goalie Anthony Aragon, junior, kept the Scarlet Indians from striking the net.
Jesus Rodriguez, Bluejay senior, recorded the home team’s lone goal. He finished with two points,
Teammate sophomore Anthony Velasco was credit with the only assist of the contest when he found Rodriguez for the score.
This past Saturday, the Bluejays’ had a difficult road trip with their only win against against the Carlisle Wildcats, but losses versus the Urbandale J-Hawks and Dowling Catholic.
The Bluejays put on a scoring display against the Wildcats as they legged multiple goals while shutting out the opposition in a 6-0 victory.
Guarding the net were German Alvarenga, junior, and Alex Ortiz, senior, who combined for 80 minutes of defensive perfection.
Rodriguez led the squad with two goals an assist and five points. Seniors Alex Castenada, Elmer Garcia, Alexis Macias, and junior Mickey Velasco each finished with a goal.
It was the opposite result against the J-Hawks who held the Bluejays to just two goals while recording half a dozen in a 6-2 contest.
Against Dowling, the Bluejays were held scoreless for the first time this season in a 3-0 loss.
The team is back on the field at home this Friday when they welcome in the Grinnell Tigers.
